Memory Foam Care

Care of your Memory Foam Topper

After Delivery

Remove all packaging materials and allow your Memory Foam Topper to lie flat in a warm room before use. This is necessary to allow it to expand to its full size. This is completely normal, remember the Memory Foam memory foam material is heat sensitive and will react to changes in temperature and it is this that gives its comfort and pressure relieving properties. This change in temperature can be from your body heat, the room temperature or cold environments.

When in transit your topper can often spend time overnight in cold temperatures, which can cause it to contract in size. Depending on how low the temperature is, the size can reduce by anything up to 5 or 10 inches. In this case the topper may need more time to warm up to room temperature and expand back to its full size. Also, some of our memory foam toppers are vacuum packed for delivery and may take longer to expand. For non-vacuum packed toppers we recommend 2 or 3 days to allow the memory foam to expand back to its original size. Vacuum packed toppers may take anything up to 10 days. It may also be necessary to help the topper expand by gently stretching its length and width.

If the room temperature is cool or less than 18 degrees Celsius the memory foam may not reach its full size and may also feel firmer. Again this is completely normal and it will soon adjust when you lie down on it as it absorbs the heat from your body.

We recommend that you rotate (head to foot) your topper every so often and while it is not necessary to turn your standard mattress as often, it is a good idea to turn it once a year or more if you prefer.

We do not recommend the use of either an electric blanket or heat pad that is in direct contact with the Memory Foam. However, all our Memory Foam products are fire retardant to British Standards and an electric over blanket that is for use over the top of your body while in bed can be used without any risk or safety issues. The use of an electric over blanket will simply increase the ambient temperature under your bed covers and the additional heat may make the memory foam slightly softer when in use. Please be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your electric over blanket.

Like any new bed or mattress, it may take you a little time to adjust to your new Memory Foam topper so give yourself a few days to get used to the new sleeping surface.

Your new Memory Foam topper may have a slight odour when first unpacked. This is neither, unpleasant or harmful, and should take only a few days to dissipate.

The covers of Memory Foam toppers can usually be removed for cleaning if necessary. We do however recommend the use of a plain, unpadded, fitted mattress cover to keep your topper and mattress in good condition and firmly in place on your bed. This can be made to fit the thickness of both your topper and mattress together.Click here to see a suitable Mattress Cover or here for a cutom made Coolmax Mattress Cover.

Do not machine or hand wash the products foam interior. If the memory foam interior becomes soiled, it can be spot cleaned using a mild detergent. Air dry away from direct sunlight and heat.
